While a "for-profit" business, OVER THE BARS recognizes the importance of giving back to the community. Our camp will conclude with an auction to benefit local women's support services. Join us to improve your riding and the lives of other women.
The Big Schizzle
Because I believe in the importance of giving back to the community, we are organizing a fundraiser to benefit the Aspen/Snowmass community. I have partnered with Response, Inc. Response is a non-profit organization founded in 1983, providing confidential, non-judgmental assistance for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault in the Roaring Fork Valley. They provide: 24 hour emergency assistance, one-to-one peer counseling and support groups, education and awareness programs in the community, volunteer training programs, information about and referral to appropriate agencies, networking with law enforcement and other agencies, and advocacy on behalf of the survivor and their children who come to Response for assistance each year.
Also included in their program:
Children's groups, shelter for up to three days while other arrangements are made, weekly support groups for survivors of rape and women who have been, or are currently in abusive relationships. Support counseling for victims and family members, community awareness including presentations to schools, and civic and service groups to raise awareness regarding domestic abuse, sexual assault, and the impact on children witnessing abuse in the home. Advocacy is as also available in the area of crisis counseling, criminal justice support, emergency financial assistance, and resource referrals. Spanish speakers are available for all aspects of the program.
The Advocates Program
The volunteer advocates are individuals from the community who have completed extensive training programs in order to provide assistance. The advocates carry emergency pagers, respond to crisis calls 24 hours a day, provide emergency shelter and support services, and provide support and resources information. Since its inception, Response, Inc has trained hundreds who have assisted thousands to find alternatives to violence.
